JUAN QUINTERO


 
 

Juan is a civil and environmental engineer with over 40 years of experience in risk assessment, mitigation and compensation of environmental and social impacts associated with development projects; especially transport and hydroelectric projects around the world. As Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank from 1993 to 2010 he was in charge of ensuring compliance with World Bank environmental and social safeguard policies in infrastructure projects. He is an expert in environmental business development, bidding and contract documents preparation, client relations and management of construction of complex infrastructure projects. Juan is a specialist in the application of construction environmental management plans and offsetting impacts on biodiversity, and regional cumulative and strategic environmental assessments of hydroelectric programs. He is an author of a number of hydropower and sustainability publications. Juan is a member of Panel of Experts for several hydroelectric projects around the world, and previously was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) (2012-2015). He is a Certified Assessor for the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol (HSAP). In 2016 Juan received the Life-time Achievement Award from the International Association for Impact Assessment for “significant contribution to impact assessment leading to mainstreaming biodiversity conservation in infrastructure projects around the world”.
