Capacity building and collaboration with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC)

Established in 2001, CAREC is a regional not-for-profit organization with a mandate of advancing environmental cooperation and sustainable development in the Central Asian Region (CAR). CAREC was co-founded by the five Central Asian States – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan – and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the European Commission (EC).

Under CAREC’s Water Initiatives Support Programme, IHA Sustainability delivered two Protocol training workshops to CAR representatives in July and October 2016. IHA and CAREC are collaborating to build capacity in improving the sustainability of hydropower projects in Central Asia, including projects under development and operating projects.
