Katherine Brown

Katherine Brown is a hydrologist and water resources specialist with more than 18 years of international experience supporting hydropower, water resources, and climate resilience projects across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. She is Regional Lead, Water Resources & Irrigation for SMEC Malaysia and has extensive experience in hydrology, reservoir operations, sedimentation, environmental flows, flood risk management, and integrated water resources planning. 

Katherine has contributed to hydropower feasibility studies, environmental and social impact assessments, downstream flow assessments, and operational studies for projects including Bakun HEP, Mentarang Induk HEP, Kenyir HEP, Kambarata-1 HEP, and numerous other hydropower developments throughout the Asia Pacific region. She has worked with utilities, governments, international financial institutions, and private developers to support sustainable water and energy outcomes. 

Katherine holds qualifications in Environmental Engineering and Water Resource Management and is an Internal Assessor under the Hydropower Sustainability Standard.
