Pema Dorji
Pema Dorji currently works under the Office of the Safeguards, Asian Development Bank (ABD), in Bhutan. He is a seasoned environmental and safeguards professional who worked for close to 17 years with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), Bhutan’s premier hydropower utility company, specializing in environmental and social risk management, policy compliance, and capacity building for large-scale infrastructure and development projects.
Pema holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, with a specialization in Water Management, and has strong expertise in applying multilateral development bank safeguard frameworks, including those related to project design, due diligence, and implementation. He is experienced in conducting environmental and social impact assessments, reviewing safeguard instruments such as ESIAs and ESMPs, undertaking risk classification, and monitoring compliance.
Pema is also skilled in advising project teams and clients, strengthening environmental and social management systems, and addressing cross-cutting issues such as biodiversity, natural resource management, occupational health and safety, and climate change. He has extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, consultation, capacity building, and knowledge sharing. Fluent in English, he is adept at managing complex projects, supporting safeguards compliance, and promoting sustainable development outcomes aligned with MDB standards.
